I am guilty of neglecting this blog because of school work and I must apologise to you all for that but I have finally decided on a way to ensure consistency in the future.
Welcome to my new weekly series called Weekly Wonder in which I will recommend a new book every week giving out just enough teasers for you to see if you would like to read the book but without giving any spoilers.
This week’s wonder is:
LOOK WHO’S BACK BY TIMUS VERMES
SO WHAT IS UP WITH THE STORY?
Imagine for a second that Adolf Hitler arrives in present day Germany with no recollection of his suicide. What do you think will happen? Now think that he has been given a platform to express his views in the form of a TV show. To find out what the Fuhrious Adolf Hitler gets up to, you will have to read the book.
A GLIMPSE BETWEEN THE PAGES
“To begin with I thought we were driving around in circles until I realised that Herr Starbuck owned dozens of coffee houses.”
“We all know, of course, what to make of our newspapers. The deaf man writes down what the blind man has told him, the village idiot edits it, and their colleagues in the other press houses copy it. Each story is doused afresh with the same stagnant infusion of lies, so that the “splendid” brew can then be served up to a clueless Volk.”
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT
- The book offers a fresh perspective not only towards a man we know only as a ruthless dictator but also at modern society when viewed through the eyes of the man who arguably changed the world.
- Though it deals with a sensitive topic, Vermes manages to infuse just the right kind and amount of humor in his book to make it enjoyable without it becoming silly.
Well, I hope you all enjoy this series as well as Look Who’s Back.
