Welcome to Weekly Wonder! This is a series in which we recommend books which are definitely worth being on your reading list telling you just enough about the book for you to get an idea of it, but we don’t give out spoilers.
This week’s Wonder is:
THE PARTNER BY JOHN GRISHAM
This post is at special request from mylifeasCathy. Check out her absolutely wonderful blog!
SO, WHAT’S UP WITH THE STORY?
When Patrick Lanigan, a junior partner in a law firm dies in a horrible car accident, everyone from his beloved wife to his fellow partners are appropriately in mourning. But six weeks later, $90 Million dollars vanish from the firm’s off-shore account and everyone suspects Patrick of stealing from his firm and vanishing into the night. Will they find him? If they do, what them? What if they don’t? Read the book to find out!
A GLIMPSE BETWEEN THE PAGES
“Life on the run was filled with dreams, some at night during sleep, real dreams, and some when the mind was awake but drifting. Most were terrifying, the nightmares of the shadows growing bolder and larger. Others were pleasant wishes of a rosy future, free of the past. These were rare, Patrick had learned. Life on the run was life in the past. There was no closure”
“Because the past was not yet complete, the future was difficult to contemplate.”
“Escape was a common, usually unspoken, dream of many small-town lawyers trapped in an overcrowded, boring profession where expectations were too high.”
WHAT I LOVE ABOUT IT
- It’s a John Grisham.
- The thrill of the chase.
- The way the puzzle unfolds right in front of you; always staying just one step ahead so you can’t predict what is going to happen next.
- The legal manipulation that Patrick employs.
- The pace of the novel.
- The ending!
- The twist at the ending.
- (Yes those are two different points.)
I hope you enjoy reading this book! (Especially you, Cathy)
